                                             Mural Pricing Information

Hi, I have created this guide so you can get a quick understanding of how my pricing structure works. Unlike many artists, I chose another method by which to calculate the cost of a mural which will be more financially beneficial for the client. These initial estimates are only for the painting process. Other resources used in the creation of the work will be added to the mural costs. These resources include the cost of paint, mechanical lifting devices, special types of paints that may be used on unique surfaces, and special required processes.

The pricing technique I mentioned earlier involves splitting murals up into simple, medium, and detailed areas for the purpose of square footage calculations. Since each mural may have one or more of the three areas, I calculate those areas separately to arrive at a total cost. Below is a short list of possible indoor / residential dimensions with calculations and one larger mural as an example. Again, you can contact me with any questions you may have.

INTERIOR: Note – Exterior murals may be treated differently on a case-by-case basis. Again, you can contact me at any time about your design needs.

DIMENSIONS SQUARE FEET SIMPLE (8.50 / SQ FT) MEDIUM (9.50/SQ FT) DETAILED (10.50/SQ FT)

8’ X 10’        80             680.00            760.00                     840.00

8’ X 15’      120             1020.00          1140.00                 1260.00

8’ X 20’      160             1360.00          1520.00                  1680.00

8’ X 25’       200             1700.00          1900.00                  2100.00

10’ X 11’    110              935.00             1045.00                1155.00

11’ X 15’    165              1402.50          1567.50                1732.50

11’ X 25’     275              2337.50          2612.50               2887.50

20’ X 30’     600              5100.00          5700.00               6300.00

0’ X 11’       110              935.00            1045.00                1155.00

11’ X 15’    165              1402.50         1567.50                 1732.50

11’ X 20’     220              1870.00         2090.00                2310.00

11’ X 25’     275              2337.50         2612.50                2887.50

20’ X 30’     600              5100.00         5700.00                6300.00

This will give you an idea of items which determine simple, medium, and detailed designs:

Simple – sky, water, somewhat flat grass, human figures off in the distance, and low detail animals, simple landscape.

Medium – med. detailed trees, plants, lower detailed flowers, grass, a couple of animals, med. size people, smaller animals, glass objects, food, ocean waves, under the sea, lower detail buildings.

Detailed – complex clouds, full size human figures, buildings, cars, larger animals, detailed flowers, plants, and trees, fabric / lace, faux wood trim, and furniture.

Project location: Fuel, Accommodations, Lift Equipment

Fuel Expense: Fuel expense for a project will be determined according to location and length of project. If the project lasts longer than one day, the fuel cost will then be calculated according to the distance from the accommodation to site

Accommodation:  I have had commercial clients with available accommodation or facilities nearby.  I have traveled to or near the coast for planning meetings and returned the same day. I will be happy to answer any questions and am flexible concerning these and other project details.

Lift Equipment: Murals higher than 15 feet require either scaffolding or an articulating boom lift, and the client is responsible for having these in place on the day the mural begins. There might be a few location obstacles that may add difficulty to the process. This will be discussed at your consultation and on-site visit.

Materials:

I use good quality latex paints from Sherwin Williams but if a client prefers a different brand or has an existing account with a particular store, I will be happy to work with them.

Certain materials cost more than others, and anything specific to your project will be included in your price, for example, metallic paint or glow in the dark paint will cost more. Paints that create certain textures also cost more. If there is anything major that affects your pricing, that will be disclosed to you.

Additional Cost Information:

Before your wall mural project begins, it will be assumed that there is a base coat of paint on the wall and any prep work including wall repair will be done by the client prior to starting the mural. It is the client’s responsibility to have the wall primed and ready for the mural to begin.

Anti-Graffiti coating is entirely up to the client to choose the coating if they want one. Not all clients use clear coatings but in schools and hospitals it has preserved the murals well. Exterior murals where graffiti is a problem will need to receive a coating of the client’s choosing. The client will need to be prepared to have funds ready over the years for repairs should graffiti be a problem in their area.

How to Measure Square Footage:

Measure the length and height of the wall to be painted.

Example: height 8 feet X length 20 feet = 160 square feet

Multiply both numbers together. That will give you the square footage to be painted. To get a price estimate, go to the chart above and find a size closest to your wall size. If there is a window in the middle, you can subtract that from the price by multiplying length X width to get the window square footage and subtracting that from the total cost.
